As Part of its seven-week long, civic extravaganza – The Cultural Olympiad – Vancouver hosts the One-Year Countdown Celebration, featuring Sarah McLachlan. This event is the official kick-off to the imminent 2010 Olympics — a kind of pre-anniversary party, proving with its roster that even Canadians can be exciting. Multi-platinum songbird Sarah McLachlan – that uniquely warbling chanteuse – joins the Alberta Ballet in their tribute to (even more Canadian talent) folk sensation Joni Mitchell and pervasive choreographer Jean Grand-Maitre. Even if Canada can’t promise to bring home any gold in 2010 (and lord knows such promises are ill-advised), a first-place, medal-worthy evening, this classic Can-Con event is sure to be. McLachlan plays tonight, Feb. 12 at Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
