Alberta Ballet announces 2014-2015 season

8th season includes five Alberta premieres and encore favourites. Other season highlights include guest companies Houston Ballet and Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, and national and international touring.

CALGARY, March 10, 2014 /CNW/ – Alberta Ballet is delighted to announce the 2014-2015 season line-up. Featured next season are the company premieres of Don Quixote and The Three Musketeers, and Jiří Kylián’s masterpiece Forgotten Land. Alberta Ballet will present the world premiere of a brand new Carmen – choreographed by the company’s own Yukichi Hattori. Returning audience favourites include Jean Grand-Maître’s acclaimed portrait ballet Fumbling Towards Ecstasy – which will feature new choreography and songs from Sarah McLachlan’s upcoming album, and Edmund Stripe’s holiday classic The Nutcracker. 2014-2015 will also see the all-male parody ensemble Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, and Houston Ballet will close out the season with La Bayadère.

“After decades of consistently presenting excellence in dance I truly believe that this season’s programming, more than any other we have presented before, will become a landmark year. In 2014-2015, Alberta Ballet will reach its zenith by showcasing our internationally acclaimed dancers with a series of spectacular ballets created by the leading dance makers of our time, hailing from around the globe,” says Artistic Director Jean Grand-Maître on the upcoming season.

“Those who love classical ballet will be enthralled, and those who revel in more contemporary fare will rejoice for there is something for everyone in this dazzling season, featuring 33 distinguished dancers handpicked from around the world, and a repertoire highlighting five Alberta premieres inspired by history’s greatest heroes and legends.”
