Sarah and Friends Tour 2010/11

Post by jessiemonkey » Tue Sep 07, 2010 3:39 pm

SEPTEMBER 7, 2010, 11:17 am
Only a month since LILITH 2010 came to an end, SARAH MCLACHLAN is ready to get back on the road. The Grammy-Award winning singer/songwriter has announced a special fall tour launching Monday, November 1 in Dallas. The “Sarah And Friends” tour will be one unlike any other, with shows consisting of two sets: one set with Sarah sitting in on songs by her guest performers, and a second set of Sarah's greatest hits and new favorites from her recently released and critically-acclaimed album, LAWS OF ILLUSION.

“Sarah And Friends” will also have an interactive element as Sarah answers audience questions intermittently throughout the performance. Fans will have the opportunity to submit questions upon their arrival, which Sarah will then choose randomly from the stage.

This summer’s Lilith tour saw Sarah rejoin new and old friends on the road, and her live performances were among the best in her career. In a live review of the Los Angeles-area Lilith tour date, the Los Angeles Times raved "McLachlan ...was almost levitating with radiant energy,” the Hollywood Reporter observed, “Sarah isn’t just back. She’s better,” and the Orange County Register said Sarah was “at her finest.”

Of her first album of brand new material in 7 years, USA Today raves: “Some of her most buoyant and beautifully crafted songs ever. Candid and thoughtful, LAWS OF ILLUSION, finds her tackling heartache head-on and leaves no doubt that she wants to find love again – and will.” And The New York Times glows: “The songs are as direct as Ms. McLachlan’s have ever been, and as finely tuned…The album is as lush and measured…It’s a collection of ballads, hymns, and waltzes, sung in long arcs of melody with a voice that enfolds its strength in breathy intimacy. Acoustic instruments gleam, with unearthly keyboards and electric guitars billowing up around them.”

Thanks! I saw this on Facebook a moment ago

Looks like she is going to focus on the West/South/Southwest in November. Hopefully she tours the East coast in December :D so exciting

I presume she will be playing with her full band in the second half of the show. Tickets not on sale yet by the looks of it. This looks far more exciting than Lilith.

Late edit Biloxi on Nov 6 is on sale now. I just tried to see if I could get good seats, but the best ones have gone already.

Squirrel, she might do that or the shows might mirror the Sarah and Friends Show that took place in Atlanta last month.

Butterfly and Melissa each performed 4 songs from their own catalogue throughout the show; 2 on the first half, and 2 on second. Sarah joined and provided vocals and piano. If they go that route, then Sarah's set will be 16 songs instead of 23-24 that she normally performs by herself. I fear it might be a repeat of Lilith.. although she did perform 3 extra songs that she never played there: U Want Me 2, Fallen and Good Enough.

Sarah and Friends is a nice concept as it exposes Butterfly and Melissa to a wider audience but I would rather much prefer to get 24 Sarah songs. It's been too long!

But don't worry, the whole show was full band. I expect this tour to be the same.

Thanks Miguel, as usual you're the man with the info. Sounds good doesn't it? Even though it would be nice to see a real SM tour maybe this is as close as we get. So tempting to order tickets. If only I knew whether she planned to tour Europe in the New Year, as has been suggested on the forum. Last tour I ordered tickets for Belfast even though I didn't know whether I could make it or not. But once they were ordered, I just had to go. Not sure whether my partner can face a long haul flight to Texas but it is so so tempting.

Well, sort of a sigh. I could have had 3rd row seats for Texas. If it had been front row I don't think I could have passed. Demand is still high for McLachlan though. A couple of minutes later most of the front seats had gone. It saves me a couple of thousand in money, but not sure it was a good pass (couldn't resist the poker reference). If I could be sure my partner was as keen as I am, it would have been an easy decision.

I'm hanging my hat on Europe next year. However I'm sure I'd get to the East coast if it comes there. Pity she wasn't in Chicago, I'm just setting off there now and it would be a nice distraction.

Have fun in Chicago Quincy, it would have been really lucky to have found a McLachlan date coinciding with your visit. You know how it always happens. She will play the day after you leave.

Next year we're going to Texas for Kerrville for the first time in years, and it will probably coincide with the few dates she plays in Europe. Men in white coats will eventually drag me away, but this could well ensure it happens sooner than later.

I would be happy even with third row. It's not a very big difference, they're just about 1.5 meters apart, you'll still have a great view. You should go for it Squirrel, if you still find any seats in the first 4 rows (center) available

Yeah Miguel, I should have just gone for it. Looked like the first nine rows sold out in about 2 minutes, but I saw vip seats for $300+ on some other site. Not sure if that meant front two rows never were available in the first place for the usual $65. I wont say money is irrelevant, but when it comes to seeing her live, it almost is.

My partner moved home this year, and with us going to Kerrville in early summer, I'm not sure I could convince her it was a great idea to fly off to Texas in a couple of months. If it were just me I'd have gone, but she doesn't fly well and would need something really special to convince her. I got really depressed after letting the tickets go. Problem is with this artist it's only a once in six years chance. So many years have been missed when her voice was at its peak. I'd have gladly paid for the two of us but didn't feel like doing the trip myself. Years ago I'd have done it without question. I'm probably relying too much on a European date or two next year. I know i'm going to regret that decision, just as I regret passing up on the chance to get 6 nights in a row at the Sydney Opera House 6 years ago.

It was good to hear from those who enjoyed Lilith. I was so pleased for Blackangel who so obviously enjoyed that special occasion. Money can't buy those experiences, and they leave you with memories that keep you warm for the rest of your life. I hope you all get to see her and enjoy her this year. I haven't given up hope of seeing her again, but yes, I probably should have gone for those tickets.
